Jacob had served Laban faithfully for 20 years, working tirelessly and remaining loyal. Yet Laban’s heart grew envious and controlling. He falsely accused Jacob, manipulated his wages repeatedly.
When Jacob ran away from Laban's house without Laban's knowledge, Laban planned to destroy him. But God intervened.
In the book of Genesis, chapter 31, verse 24, the Bible says:
“But God came to Laban in a dream at night and said to him, ‘Be careful not to say anything to Jacob, either good or bad.’”
This is profound; God directly confronted the one with power over Jacob. He restrained Laban’s authority so he could not harm Jacob. God’s presence ensured that human intentions were nullified over Jacob.
This teaches us a timeless principle: People may have the ability to harm you, but God can intervene. Another example is David. Saul, the king of Israel, had the absolute power to kill David. Yet God intervened. David’s destiny was unharmed because God’s presence was with him. Just like Jacob, the enemy’s power is limited when God is your protector.
Let us pray:
Heavenly Father, thank You that Your presence is my protection. Just as You intervened for Jacob when Laban had the power to harm him, intervene for me in every situation where I face human threats. Protect my life, my family, and my resources. Restrain those who intend to harm me, and let Your power neutralize every scheme of the enemy. Help me to walk confidently, knowing that You are with me, and no one can prevail against Your will. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
