“She gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her: ‘You are the God who sees me,’ for she said, ‘I have now seen the One who sees me.’” — Genesis 16:13 (NIV)

In this passage, we meet Hagar, the servant of Sarah, who found herself abandoned, mistreated, and alone in the wilderness. She was pregnant, afraid, and unsure of her future. Yet, in her pain and loneliness, God met her right where she was.

He didn’t ignore her tears. He didn’t overlook her situation. Instead, He comforted her, spoke to her, and promised her a future. Overwhelmed by this encounter, Hagar gave God a new name — El Roi, which means “The God who sees me.”

This truth is timeless and comforting: No matter what you are going through, God sees you, and He hears you.

There are moments when people misunderstand you, abandon you, or treat you unfairly. You may feel invisible or unheard — but you are never unnoticed by God. He sees every tear, every prayer, every effort, and every pain.

Even when you are in a “wilderness season” of confusion or uncertainty, God’s eyes are on you. He doesn’t just see you; He cares deeply about you and is working things together for your good (Romans 8:28).

A powerful example of this truth is Hannah in 1 Samuel 1. She was heartbroken because she had no child and was constantly mocked by her rival. But even in her distress, she poured out her soul before God. And God saw her pain and heard her cry — giving her a son, Samuel, who became one of the greatest prophets in Israel.

Just like Hagar and Hannah, God sees your struggle and hears your cry. You are not forgotten. The same God who found Hagar in the wilderness will meet you in your situation and turn your sorrow into testimony.

Let us pray:

Heavenly Father, thank You for being the God who sees me and hears me. Even in moments when I feel forgotten or alone, remind me that Your eyes are always on me. Lord, comfort my heart, strengthen my faith, and help me to trust that You are working all things out for my good. Let me experience Your peace and see Your hand at work in every area of my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
