Minding Your Business Is Scriptural

The Bible instructs us to be our brother's keeper, at the same time, in First Thessalonians chapter 4 verse 1, the Bible says we should mind our own business.

"Make it your goal to live a quiet life, minding your own business and working with your hands, just as we instructed you before."

Yes! mind your business!

I am not ashamed to admit that a lot of Christians are the worst gossip.  You see Christians these days asking questions, trying to know other people's business, not to help, but just to know it and have something to gossip about. Some people even gossip in form of testimonies. It has become that bad!

Aside from the gossip, there are a lot of other Christians who are quick to interfere in other people's business. In Nigeria, we call this kind of people Busy Body.

The Busy Body Christian has something to say in every topic that is directed or not directed to them. They always want to air their opinion in every discussion. On social media and blogs, you will see them under the comment section, no, not preaching Christ, but saying their "own mind".

This is what the Bible says about this kind of Christian:

Proverbs chapter 26 verse 17 [Goodnews Translation]

"Getting involved in an argument that is none of your business is like going down the street and grabbing a dog by the ears."

It is okay to give a listening ear, listening to other people when they needed to speak to someone is a great skill. But, because they are telling you about their problem does not mean they want your advice.

Except when they ask for your advice, do not try to advise.

James 1 verse 9 [NIV]

"My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry"

Mind your business and stay away from other people's arguments. And when people come to you to share their problems, give them your listening ears. If they want your advice, they will ask for it. Don't go about telling other people's business, this is really bad.

These are the lessons God wants us to learn through his words (the Bible) today.

May God give you the grace to mind your business from today in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen!
