Sinach's Song 'Way Maker' Makes History


Nigerian gospel musician, Osinachi Joseph popularly known by the mononym Sinach makes history by being the first gospel artiste in the country to get her song remixed by over 20 popular gospel musicians worldwide. 

On 7 March 2019, the senior worship leader at Believers' Loveworld International became the first Gospel singer from Nigeria to obtain over 100 million views of a single video on YouTube, and the third Nigerian to achieve that feat, next to Davido and Yemi Alade, who achieved the same feat in December 2018. She achieved this with her song, Way Maker which was published 30th December 2015, and has now amassed over 100,166,641 (a hundred million) views on YouTube.

An overall statistics of various versions of ‘Way Maker’ amounts to a billion views combined on YouTube, making the song one the most remixed song with the highest YouTube views in recent times.

The graduate of Physics started singing for family and friends in 1989 as a hobby while working as a staff and choir member in Christ Embassy. Now she is known globally for several gospel hits songs which include, "Way Maker", "I Know Who I Am", "Great Are You Lord", "Rejoice", "He Did It Again", "Precious Jesus", "The Name of Jesus", "This Is my Season", "Awesome God", "For This", "I Stand Amazed", "Simply Devoted" and "Jesus is Alive".

In 2016, Sinach was the first recipient of the LIMA Songwriter of the Decade Award, recognising her contribution to gospel music in the previous decade.

In September 2019, Sinach became the first Gospel Artist from Africa to tour India, in New Delhi and Pune headlining concerts with several thousands in attendance. She had also performed at concerts in the West Indies and the Carribean, Europe, America, and Australia. 

Sinach hails from Ebonyi State, Eastern Nigeria, and is the second daughter of seven children. As a child, Sinach stated she had dreams, where she saw herself singing to large crowds, but didn't actively pursue anything musically as a career besides joining the choir, and also working as an administrative staff in the Church. Sinach had written many songs before she released her first album, Chapter One in 2011.

In 2006, she won the Western Africa Artist Of The Year by Groove Awards in Kenya, and was listed by YNaija alongside Chris Oyakhilome, Enoch Adeboye as one of the Top 100 Influential Christians in Nigeria.

Sinach has performed in several countries including Kenya, at Citam Karen church, Dominica, South Africa, United States, Canada, Antigua & Barbuda, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Grenada, Uganda at the Miracle Centre Cathedral, a church led by Pastor Robert Kayanja, Barbados, The British Virgin Islands, Zambia, Saint Maarten, the United Kingdom and India

Her song, Way Maker has been remixed in different languages such as Spanish, French, and Swahili. Michael W Smith, Jesus Culture, Bethel Music, Travis Greene, Leeland, Maranda Curtis, Donnie McClurkin, Milagroso (Spanish), Avion Blackman and Mark Mohr, Jovonta Patton, Abres Camino (Spanish), HungryGen, Brentwood Benson, Priscilla Bueno, Paul McClure, and Ruthie Ridley, are some of the artists who have remixed ‘Way Maker‘, thus making it the most remixed song from and African gospel music minister.
