Simple Practices/Habits That Boost Your Happiness

I appreciate you for coming here to read this. Thank you!!!

There are some habits we ignore, yet, these habits have the power to lift our spirits. We all deserve to be happy, Nigerians, especially in this particular time believes there is no happiness in the country. The truth is, nobody can make you happy except God. If you believe that, then you should know God has created in you the ability to make yourself happy.

Here are a few simple practices/habits that seem to have the ability to boost your mood and keep it high.

Write Down the Things you are grateful for: You may have heard the phrase, "count your blessings" before, but how often do you actually do it? Do you pause to feel grateful when something good happens? How about when you need an emotional boost? Counting your blessings is one sure way to develop a constant mindset of gratitude, which can turn a mundane life into a miraculous life. I have a song on my phone, Guy Penrod's count your blessings, whenever I listen to him, my heart reflects on those things I am lucky to have, those unmerited favours I have enjoyed and that is it, I found myself in that aura, the aura of happiness that affects everyone around me.

Spend Money on others: When you’ve had a really bad day, you might have the urge to go and buy your favourite comfort food or finally purchase that pair of shoes you’ve been eyeing for the last three months. However, research shows that you’ll feel happier if you spend that money on someone else, instead of yourself. My brothers and sisters, please, come and spend your money on me, it will make you happy oh!

Set realistic goals: If you’re one of those people who like to make to-do lists on a regular basis, then listen closely: When you’re setting your goals, it’s better to be specific and set goals you know you can achieve.

Meditate: Meditation is a practice where an individual trains the mind or induces a mode of consciousness, either to realize some benefit or for the mind to simply acknowledge its content...(Wikipedia).
People who meditate are less stressed, healthier, they sleep better, and they have a more positive outlook on life. Simply put, meditation makes you a happier person!
The beauty of meditation is that there are thousands of different ways to do it, this is a problem too, if you go about meditating on the wrong things, you end up worst. Meditate on the word of God, this is the best way to find happiness. If you delight in the word of God and meditate on it day and night you will yield your fruit in season.

Read a Story: Reading helps put our brain into a pleasurable trance-like state. You can find happiness by reading interesting stories. An example is a  story on this Blogsite, "Bolaji Agbekoya (the pain behind the smile)". When you read about the problem of others, it triggers you to help others. Helping others bring me happiness and fulfilment. I don't know about you. You can read any other book of your interest. I have a friend who read about cars. The way he enjoyed reading about cars ehn, na only God know oh, another of my friend love reading about football.

Write down your feelings: Ever heard someone say, 'If you're angry at someone, write them a letter and don't send it'? While that might seem like a waste of time, science reveals recording your feelings is great for clarifying your thoughts, solving problems more efficiently, relieving stress, and more.

Scientific research also shows that talking about your feelings to a professional can significantly benefit your health. You may connect with licensed mental health professionals online at BetterHelp.

Listen to music that moves you: According to new research, Listening to music causes the brain to release dopamine, a feel-good chemical. A study claimed when you listen to tunes that move you, your brain releases dopamine, a chemical involved in both motivation and addiction. Listen to music that moves you to praise God, music to drive you to chase after your set goals doggedly, music that moves you to help others etc. I have a compilation of Motivational audio here that moves you every day to chase after your set goals, ease tension, eradicate failure and all that. You can give it a try.
*Bonus: you cannot see me walking around without my earphone oh...*

Go for a nature walk: If living in a big city has you feeling a bit down, there's good news: A brief walk in nature could be all it takes to chase away those negative thoughts. I was a happy young man from birth, I was born and raised in Lagos - Nigeria (the biggest black city), my happiness increased by a thousand per cent when I gained admission, the sire of 7 huge mountains around me makes me happy. It was a new wonderful experience, you can go for a nature walk with your family during your holiday. It is not a must you go to your village, explore other options. The good news is, you don't need to travel abroad to enjoy the sight of nature, Nigeria is blessed oh!

Volunteer: Volunteering reduced risk of depression, a higher amount of overall satisfaction, and even a reduced risk of death from physical illness as a consequence of mental distress. I recently volunteered to be a part of a walk "HCI walk for peace". I have never experience Fulfilment like that. You can volunteer for many other things. Like the one above, volunteer to spend money on me biko.

I hope you find a lot of happiness as you make these practices become your everyday habit. Come back next time.
